Chelsea has long been one of London’s most upmarket and fashionable neighbourhoods, its western fringes, developed in the 19th century, remain modest – rows of cottages interspersed and low-rise blocks of flats. When young lawyer Alec Bonner bought his one-bedroom flat in a Victorian block in Chelsea he knew two things: complete renovation was essential and the process had to be completely smooth, so as not to be a distraction from his very demanding professional life.
